Make your Life Better in a Month with just 3 Steps (Seriously!)

I’m about 30,000 above ground right now, flying to Missoula, Montana, to visit my rockstar attorney boyfriend.

Every year he has a Halloween party at his house and we always have a couple’s costume. Last year I was a tiger (his nickname for me.. I swear, bite your boyfriend in the face 1 time during a moment of passion and you’re branded “Tiger” forever) and he, naturally, dressed up as a tiger-tamer.

Any guesses on our costume this year?

So anyway, a few years ago, after I divorced my husband and had dated a few men who were asses, I realized that I was finding all the same kind of guys, even though I kept saying I didn’t want to date assholes.

So I decided to make a list of everything that I wanted in a guy. I made sure that nothing on the list was superficial but I made it really specific. It became 3 pages of things like..

“Will show me the world.”

“Has kids.”

“Non smoker.”

“Laughs at my dumb jokes.”

“Likes poker.”

“Protective but not jealous.”

“Works out with me.”

“Honest.”

“Respects me and always shows it.”

“Likes to hot tub.”

These are things that I knew I wanted in a guy and I wasn’t willing to settle for anything less.

Some of these might sound silly like “Likes poker”, but really, I love poker and I can’t be with a guy who doesn’t at least enjoy it because I wouldn’t want him to be miserable for hours while I play and I wouldn’t want to not play because he doesn’t like it.

I knew that I wanted to be respected, so the first sign of disrespect from a guy, I cut him out. Because he didn’t match my list.

I knew exactly what I wanted before I had it.

I can say with full confidence that I got everything on my list.

Paul has spent countless hours with pruney fingers, in hot tubs, listening to my stupid jokes.

 

A couple months ago, I sent out an email asking for questions for “Figure it Out Friday” segments.

A lot of the replies sounded like this…

“I have so many bills and debt I can’t pay.”

“My car is always broken down.”

“My boyfriend treats me bad.”

“etc.. etc.. etc..”

I could answer these individual questions, specifically (and I may in the future), but there is a common theme between all of them that needs to be addressed first..
